It’s time to “Getter Done” is what I heard in my spirit mid-September 2020. I knew the Lord was leading me to finally write the book I had known was coming for awhile, but it was now time to do the work. That phrase was not new to me. You see, when the Lord answered my prayers in December 2003, and began the healing of my marriage, I told God I wanted Him to heal my heart too just as He was doing in my husband’s. I literally said, reveal what needs to be healed Lord and let’s “Getter Done!” I was done with the roller coaster ride in my marriage and I was aware that I played a role, just as Greg did. We both had things God wanted to do in our hearts before our marriage could be restored and our family rescued. Our personal beliefs & actions affect others. We have to cooperate with God in obedience if we desire a change. So when I heard those words back to me from Him, I knew I needed to obey.
After printing off the rough draft early Nov of 2020, I thought I’d take a break. I decided I had finished it and would work on getting it out after the holidays, so I went to the gym to work out. While on the stationary bike, a man walked in front of me and stood there while looking at the TV monitors above. His graphic T-shirt had big words across the chest with none other than, you guessed it… “Getter Done!” I could hardly believe it. Then on the drive home, the DJ on the radio station used the same phrase. I was paying attention now, but not to his voice. I literally went straight home and opened up YouTube to see Dutch Sheets was giving a message in Texas in response to a national need to come together for prayer. His words after encouraging everyone to participate went something like this: “The Lord has spoken and we are going to getter done!” I surrendered and out loud said to the Lord, “Okay! I’ll get it done and will start looking for a publisher in the morning. It published two months later, January 12, 2021 and I thought I was done!
Fast forward to the Fall of 2021 when I started getting requests for a workbook and a companion guide to the book. I had several ask for it but I was not planning to create anything else. The Holy Spirit started speaking to my heart though and I told Him that if I was to do this work, I would need a lot of help and confirmation this was of Him. I received a phone call the next day and knew it would get done! I began working on it January 2022. A few months later, as I was struggling with the workbook, I asked a group of ladies I had just met to pray for me as I knew the Lord wanted me to complete the workbook. After we prayed, a lady named Brenda said, “I know God will help you and it’s time to GETTER DONE!” SERIOUSLY? She had no way of knowing.
I knew God would help me, so I got busy. There are many stories I could share, but the bottom line is my obedience to create videos & new teachings I shared with a group of Pastors in India, have been included in the new workbook. I had no clue that God was literally helping me write new material and prepare what I would need. When I started putting the pieces together, I realized many parts were already done! I had asked Him for help and He came through!
Last January 2023, when I asked God for my word for the year, I heard the word: FINISH, in my spirit. I knew what that meant. My workbook was done last month and I am excited to say all edits have been made and IT IS DONE and available for you now.
The main takeaway I want to leave with you is that when we turn our hearts to the Lord and pray, then pay attention, we will see that He is always speaking to us!
The way He communicates to your heart may surprise you as He is a very personal God but He never contradicts His Word! If you are in a relationship with Jesus, you will hear and know His voice, just as He said, and you will recognize it when He’s trying to get your attention.
We find in Philippians 1:6, that what God begins in us, He will finish. I know it’s referring to His coming, but it also applies to what the Holy Spirit speaks to you and confirms in the Word, He will help you to complete (or getter done) that which He asks of you. He has prepared good works for us to do. He will help us as we obey and continue to trust Him to do the work through us and that my friend is GOOD NEWS!
By the way… I asked Him what my word for this year is, and I heard… CONTINUE! So I shall!
